Lane Powell- Lee Nusich Scholarship Fund Recipients – September 2009

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Abena Owusu-Takyi (Business Administration)

Abena Owusu-Takyi is a 24 year old Business Administration major at Ashesi University College. Her parents are unemployed. She needs financial support to pay for her tuition and transport fees to and from the college. Her hobbies include travelling, reading and listening to music. Abena hopes to become a human rights lawyer in the future.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Afua Serwaa Biney (Business Administration

Afua Serwaa Biney attends Ashesi University College and is in the Business Administration program. Afua is 21 years old and has six siblings. Her parents are unable to pay her tuition, as her father’s salary is unstable and her mother sells drinks and pastries. Afua wants to become a chartered accountant. She believes an education will assist her in impacting others in a positive way. Afua enjoys working with children and currently supports a local orphanage in her spare  time.       She plans to begin her own school one day.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Anthony Mensah-Kumah (Management Information Systems)

Anthony Mensah-Kumah is 20 years old. He is a Management Information Systems (MIS) major at Ashesi University College. He holds a GPA above 3.5. Due to the prolonged daily commute, Anthony needs financial assistance to live on campus. Anthony would like to expose more Ghanaians to the benefits of IT and to put Ghana on the map of safer online transactions.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Azamati Adams Addison Kobla (Computer Science)

Azamati Adams Addison Kobla is 36 years old and pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Regent University College of Science and Technology. His father is deceased. His mother is a farmer and he is the youngest of six children. He needs urgent assistance to pay outstanding school fees as well as upcoming ones. Azemati has been a Maths and Physics tutor and aspires to obtain a PhD in Computer Science before achieving his ultimate goal of becoming a lecturer.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Casely F.K Okyere (Business Administration)

Casely attends Ashesi University College. He is 23 years old and is studying towards a degree in Business Administration. He has a 3.1 GPA. The economic downturn has negatively affected his mother’s ability to pay for his education as well as that of his three siblings. Casely needs help to pay outstanding tuition fees in order to finish his degree. He is an active member of Habitat for Humanity and a high school par-time tutor. Casely aspires to set up an I.T    firm to help businesses battle Internet fraud.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Derrick Darkwah (Business Administration)

Derrick Darkwah is a 19-year-old sophomore at Ashesi University College. He is pursuing a degree in Business Administration. He needs financial assistance to pay for his tuition and residential fees. Derrick wants to become an accountant and entrepreneur. He has been involved in programs providing immunization services to local residents. Derrick hopes to serve his country by implementing volunteer community programs.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Dorcas Antwi (Mathematics)

Dorcas Antwi attends Valley View University, is 23 years old, and is studying Mathematics at the undergraduate level. She has three siblings. Her mother is a trader and her father is a farmer. Due to severe financial constraints, Dorcas’s main sponsor, her aunt has been unable to help her pay for tuition. Dorcas dreams of teaching at the university level and would like to continue with her education.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Eric Opoku (Business Administration)

Eric Opoku attends Ashesi University College. He is a sophomore, studying Bsc. Administration. He holds a 3.42 GPA. He is 18 years old and the eldest of five siblings. Eric’s family is unable to fund his education. His goal is to be an economist and a financial administrator to benefit the informal sector of Ghana.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Josephina Naa Lamiokor Lamptey (Business Administration)

Josephina Naa Lamiokor Lamptey studies Business Administration at Ashesi University College. She is 22 years old and needs financial support for her tuition and residential expenses, as her parents cannot afford to pay for them. Josephina loves to volunteer and has spent time counseling local villagers about health education. She aspires to become an accountant in the future.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Lois Naa Lamiley Akoto-Lamptey (Management Information Systems)

Lois Naa Lamiley Akoto-Lamptey is 19 years old and has two siblings. She is pursuing a Bsc. in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Ashesi University College. As a rising sophomore Lois maintains a current GPA above 3.0. Her mother has been laid off while her father earns a very meager salary as a pastor. She needs financial assistance to pay her tuition fees. Lois also volunteers as an Ashesi Career Services Advisor and is an active member of the choir. She hopes to become a successful financial consultant and establish a scholarship granting foundation of her own.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Marie-Stephanie Accouba Mockey (Management Information Systems)

Marie-Stephanie Accouba Mockey attends Ashesi University College. She holds a 3.0 GPA. She is a sophomore in the MIS program. Marie-Stephanie is 20 years old and the younger of two sisters. Her parents cannot afford to pay her tuition. Marie-Stephanie wants to have a positive impact on the economy, laws and governances of her country and possibly on those of other African countries.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Mohammed Teeko Lukman (Business Administration)

Mohammed Teeko Lukman is a sophomore at Ashesi University College pursuing a Business Administration degree. He is 21 years old and hails from a family of six. Mohammed currently maintains a 2.9 GPA. He needs financial assistance to pay tuition fees as his parents are severely financially constrained. He hopes to become a chartered accountant in the future.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Nii Ayertei Tettey (Business Administration)

Nii Ayertei Tettey is a Business Administration major at Ashesi University College with a 3.22 GPA. He is 22 years old. His father is deceased and he lives with his mother and two siblings. Nii needs assistance in funding his tuition and housing. He wants to work in airline or airport management. His hobbies include volunteering at soup kitchens and orphanages. Nii believes that education is a contributing ingredient in the recipe for success.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Stephen Ganu (Information Technology)

Stephen Ganu is a 25 year old Information Technology major at Valley View University. He needs financial assistance for his tuition. His hobbies include playing video games and listening to music. Stephen has also spent time repairing IT devices at his local church. He hopes to become a systems programmer in the future.

Lee Nusich Fellow:  Samuel Kwadwo Obeng (Computer Science)

Samuel Kwadwo Obeng is a 22 year old student at Ashesi University College. He is studying computer science at the undergraduate level and holds a 3.6 GPA. Samuel has six half-brothers and two half-sisters. He does not know who is father is and his mother is a small-scale trader. His main sponsor is his aunt, who is unable to pay for his residential lodging fees. He plans to develop a real estate company in the future. Samuel aspires to eventually obtain a PhD in Electrical and Communications Engineering. He would like to create employment opportunities for the individuals in his community by establishing or supporting a scholarship fund.
